Police were called at 2am on Saturday, February 25, with a report of an incident in a wooded area just off Duke Street, Skipton.

A spokesman said: "Officers attended and a cordon was put in place. Enquiries are at a very early stage, and are ongoing as officers seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting reference 12230035027."

Police said they were unable to give out any more details at this time but will provide updates when appropriate.

The cordon was in place for several hours.

Rumours of a body or bodies being found are incorrect, police have said.
