A PRIMARY school has “rebuilt the trust of the community after some difficult times” after it jumped from Inadequate to Good.
Calverley Parkside Primary School, in Victoria Street, was visited by Ofsted on December 13 and 14 last year.
The school – which caters for 230 pupils – was last visited by the education watchdog for a full inspection in December 2017, when it received the lowest grading.
But the setting was deemed to be Good this time around, with an Outstanding rating in leadership and management.
Calverley Parkside’s rapid success has coincided with it joining Owlcotes Multi-academy Trust and inspectors described it as “a school transformed”.
Students at the setting achieve highly thanks to a combination of skilled teaching, hard work, high expectations and an ambitious curriculum.
This is showcased in geography where pupils learn about the formation of different types of volcano, with a focus on using accurate vocabulary, and they also used the term “population density” correctly when discussing the United States of America.
Inspectors found relationships between pupils are very positive and they are supported to develop as rounded individuals.
The report said: “They are polite and courteous. They speak with calm confidence.
“Pupils celebrate differences between themselves and others.
“As one pupil noted: ‘We don’t accept those who are different to us in our school community, we welcome them into it.’”
To improve, leaders should ensure teachers consistently and effectively identify gaps in pupils’ knowledge so that new learning can build on it.
Mr Alan Steele, Headteacher at Calverley Parkside Primary School, said the school is “delighted” with its Ofsted result.
He added: “We would like to thank our staff for their hard work and dedication which has created a positive environment for teaching and learning with high aspirations for our pupils.
“We are so pleased that the inspection team recognised the ambitious curriculum that we offer pupils at Calverley Parkside, and it is wonderful to see the positive behaviour and relationships between our pupils recognised in the inspection report.
“We are grateful to our parents and carers for their continued support to school life at Parkside and the wider community, their contribution has been a key factor in making Parkside a positive and ambitious school.
“We are also so proud of our children who are always a credit to their families and to the school with their fantastic behaviour and attitudes.
“The school has benefitted from the support of Owlcotes Multi-Academy Trust, namely through working collaboratively with a network of school staff to share best practice and create an enriched curriculum."
