BRADFORD Council has given an update on the security at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre site after a spate of incidents in the past four months.
The former leisure centre closed its doors in November 2019 and was due to be demolished late last year.
But the cavernous domed building received listed status from Historic England in April 2022, to the shock of many, leaving it in limbo.
The derelict site has been plagued with issues in recent times, including a fire at the end of January, and members of the public have raised concerns about security.
The latest of these was on Monday, when police rushed to the centre at 5.30pm after reports of intruders inside the Grade II listed building.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police described it as an attempted burglary or break-in and said a number of youths were spoken to by police and referred to relevant support agencies.
Bradford Council has now revealed it has taken steps to protect the building from unwanted visitors.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: "The site has now been secured and we have reviewed the security of the ground floor openings and some improvements will be made this week."
