A MACHETE attacker who stabbed an Eid worshipper during morning prayers at a Bradford mosque has had his Hospital Order renewed.
Fezan Hussain plunged the large knife into his victim’s abdomen as they embraced as a traditional sign of peace at the Madni Masjid Mosque on Newton Street in West Bowling on May 2 last year.
A jury at Bradford Crown Court determined on October 24 that he had done the act alleged against him.
Hussain, 27, of Radfield Road, Odsal, Bradford, was not before the court after he was ruled ‘unfit to plead’ to a charge of attempted murder.
In December, Judge Jonathan Rose made a Hospital Order for 12 weeks after hearing that a bed was available for Hussain at Newton Lodge in Wakefield.
Yesterday (Wednesday, February 21) Judge Rose said that he had received a letter from Hussain’s consultant psychiatrist at the hospital asking for the order to be renewed for 28 days.
Judge Rose adjourned the case until March 22 when further news will be available.
During the trial, the court heard that the victim, a man in his 20s, was hugging Hussain after morning prayers when he suddenly stuck the machete into him.
He told how Hussain was trying to push it further into his abdomen during the attack. The blade went into his liver causing really serious internal damage.
