A SCENE for a major new BBC drama series is set to be filmed at a Bradford district beauty spot.
Boat Story will be filmed at St Ives Estate, Harden, Bingley, on Wednesday, February 22. The thriller will be broadcast on both BBC One in the UK and on Amazon Freevee, a streaming service in the USA, at a date yet to be announced.
The six-part drama follows two hard-up strangers, Janet, played by Daisy Haggard, who previously starred in BBC comedy drama Back To Life, and Samuel, played by Paterson Joseph, who has appeared in BBC drama Vigil, who come across a haul of cocaine on a shipwrecked boat.
The pair agree to sell it and split the cash, but this decision has consequences as they become a target for police, masked hitmen, and a gangster known only as ‘The Tailor’, played by Tcheky Karyo.
The thriller’s cast also includes Joanna Scanlan, who has previously starred in Notes on A Scandal, former EastEnders and London’s Burning star Craig Fairbrass and Phil Daniels, who has appeared in the cult film Quadrophenia and popular series House of Dragons.
Scenes for Boat Story will move in-land when the filming takes place on the access road through St Ives Estate, from the children’s playground to the entrance/exit from Harden Road.
The filming means that this section of the road will be closed off, but the site’s entrance/exit at Keighley Road will be open as usual between 6am and 3.30pm.
Pam Laking, chair of the Friends of St Ives Estate, urged people to keep a respectful distance while filming takes place.
She said: “It’s all so exciting and good that the production company is donating to the Friends of St Ives group too.
“It’s great. They are giving something back to the community.
“The bottom car park is going to be used by them.”
Boat Story has been filmed in and around Yorkshire over the last few months. The drama has been described as mixing humour with high-octane action sequences, largely using the Yorkshire coastline.
It is from Two Brothers Pictures, which has previously worked on The Tourist, The Missing and Fleabag.
It is the latest filming to take place in the Bradford district this month after scenes for Netflix movie Six Triple Eight were filmed in Little Germany last week.
Actor Kerry Washington was spotted on-set in Little Germany as the area was turned into Second World War Birmingham for a parade scene.
