CHRIS Kamara will return to Bradford in celebration of a prestigious honour.
The former Bradford City player and manager was given an MBE for services to football, anti-racism and charity in King Charles III’s New Year’s Honours list.
To celebrate his honour, the broadcaster, nicknamed Kammy, will visit Bradford City Hall on Friday, March 3 to meet with the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Martin Love, and the Lady Mayoress Mrs Helen Love.
Mr Kamara, who has yet to receive his honour from a member of the Royal Family at an official ceremony, has previously spoken about a medical condition which affects his speech.
He revealed that he has apraxia of speech (AOS), a disorder that affects the way a person connects speech messages from their brain to their mouth.
Mr Kamara was initially diagnosed in October 2021 and went public about his condition in March last year.
He initially joined Bradford City as a player, making 23 appearances and scoring three goals during the 1994/95 season.
Throughout March, the Lord Mayor of Bradford will be meeting and congratulating those in the district named in the New Year’s Honours list.
He will meet Helen Webb OBE who received the OBE for services to Equality, Inclusion and Wellbeing.
The Lord Mayor will also meet with Professor Barney Lerner, who received an MBE for services to the Environment in Bradford.
Prof Lerner is chairman of the Friends of Bradford Beck, a group which has worked tirelessly to re-naturalise a stretch of the beck and help improve more than two hectares of green space near Shipley.
Shadim Hussain, who received an MBE for services to Equality and to the Foster Care System, will also meet with the Lord Mayor.
He is the CEO of My Family Group CIC and is involved in many projects across Bradford.
My Family helps recruit carers in Bradford and across England.
Mrs Marjorie Black, who received the BEM for services to Policing and to charity, is to also meet with the Mayor.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford said: “It will be a real pleasure to meet with all the local recipients of these honours and congratulate them on their achievements.
The work they have done and continue to do makes a real difference for people in the district and it is important that we recognise that and celebrate it.”
