A NEW restaurant where diners can choose a live lobster from on-site fish tanks has opened in Bradford city centre.

Porterhouse Bros, on Thornton Road next to the Leonardo Hotel Bradford - formerly Jurys Inn, was the idea of Yusef Bham who suddenly passed away a few months ago.

General manager Robert Hughes says the family were determined to bring Yusef's idea to fruition.

The meat and seafood restaurant officially opened on Friday, February 10.

Mr Hughes said: "It was his (Yusef's) dream to bring something new to Bradford.

"We do live lobsters, high-end steaks and smoked meat. You will not find anything like this in Bradford at the moment.

"Although we are Asian-owned, we are not an Asian restaurant. It is classic food."

It is the venue's fish offering that really does bring something different to the city.

Customers can choose which lobster they would like to eat from one of the restaurant's fish tanks.

The carefully designed tank is to ensure the freshest seafood can be made.

The tanks help keep the lobster disease free, healthy and at an optimal temperature.
Other food options include stir fry, pasta, curries and salads.

Mr Hughes added: "We have Canadian and English lobsters. They are in the tanks and are dispatched in the evenings.

"We also have a fish station, it is behind a glass wall.

"Everything is fresh, locally sourced ingredients including the steaks and burgers."

The restaurant was initially supposed to open months before until the family were hit by the sudden death of Mr Bham.

Mr Hughes said: "The plan was to be already opened but unfortunately he passed away three months ago, which slowed the process down.

"He died suddenly. He recovered from covid but it was complications from that.

"He was discharged from hospital fine, it was an unexpected death.

"Hopefully we are going to do him proud."

Mr Hughes feels this could only be the start for the business as expansion could be on the cards if their Bradford branch is a success.

He said: "At the grand opening, people came from far and wide, Glasgow, Manchester, Harrogate, Sheffield, Leeds, and Huddersfield.

"Our aim is to target the whole region. Hopefully, we can upscale and franchise in the future. That is the direction we would like to go down."
