AN UPDATE on work to transform Bradford’s former Odeon building into a live music venue shows progress on restoring the ballroom ceiling.

Bradford Live, which is behind the project to transform the iconic 1930s building, has shared the striking images on social media.

The update said: “Fibrous plaster repairs and decorations being lovingly restored in the ballroom, beneath the temporary scaffold roof.”

Lee Craven of Bradford Live told the Telegraph & Argus that this was one area of the venue that would be restored to its former glory.

“The whole roof of the ballroom has been taken off and a temporary roof is in place above to protect the plasterwork,” he said.

He added that the leaded glass panels in the ceiling had been removed and were in the process of being restored, before being reinstated.

In June last year, it emerged that the multi-million-pound project had been delayed by a year, opening in autumn 2023 instead.

This was due to extra work being uncovered to bring the 1930s building up to scratch.

The delay was not expected to impact on the contract with the NEC which is to run the renovated building as a live music venue.
