A MALE was taken to hospital after multiple emergency services were called yesterday (Saturday) to reports of a male in distress at Apperley Bridge in Bradford.

Four crews from fire stations in Bradford and Leeds were called at 5.58pm yesterday to Apperley Lane to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man near the water.

Darren Creighton, watch commander from Shipley Fire Station, said: "We conducted a search of the riverbank and looked in the river as a precaution, but we found the male up the road.

"There was a concern for his welfare, but we found him safe and well on Harrogate Road along the roadside.

"He didn't have any injuries but the paramedics checked him over."

A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 5.44pm yesterday to reports of a male in distress on Harrogate Road.

"An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and the patient was conveyed to hospital."

Mr Creighton added the search took approximately 40 minutes to locate the male, but he added that crews did not need to enter the river to carry out their search.

Crews from Shipley, Bingley, Stanningley and Leeds fire stations were in attendance.
