SEVERAL businesses and people in Bradford have been nominated for regional awards.

The Yorkshire Choice Awards, founded by Joanne Maltby and Melanie Malcolm, recognises local people and independent businesses that are inspirational.

For the 2023 edition, 27 Bradford district representatives are up for gongs in the 12 categories.

Two owners from Bradford, Javaid Iqbal and Glenn Leyland, will battle it out with the likes of Sam Teale (Cleckheaton) and Adam Hendry (Brighouse) for Businessman of the Year.

While the city has three contenders in the Businesswoman of the Year category. Anne Stokes, Katie Taylor MBE, and Maihvish Iqbal are all listed.

Taylored Dental Care in Wibsey will battle it out with the likes of Silsden's Simply Ladies inc, Brighouse duo Gold Rabbit and Project Breakout, and Cleckheaton's Sam Teale Productions for Independent Business of the Year.

Six Bradfordians are up for Inspirational Individual of the Year. They are as follows; Emon Choudhury, Jacqui Drake, Mobeen Hussain, Muhammed Ali Islam, Mushtaq Hussain, and Saliha Sadiq.

Keighley's Bradley and Oliver Foulds have been nominated for Young Achiever of the Year.

Bradford business VR City joins the likes of The Dip & Dales Co in Keighley and Flippin’ eck from Guiseley in the running for New Starter Business of the Year.

For Volunteer of the Year, Bradford duo Michelle Mercer and Saliha Sadiq are up against nominees such as Nicholas Smith (Keighley), Shipley Memories Group and Tracey King (Liversedge).

AestheticsbyM in Girlington and Guiseley Mobility are in the race for the Customer Service award.

Jacqui Drake, Josie Griffin, Lisa Howard, and Pauline Dickson are the Bradford nominees for Local Fundraiser of the Year.

Mount Street's Adams Foodservice Trading Ltd is up for Charitable Business of the Year.

Michael Andrews is the sole Bradford nominee in the running for The Kate Granger award for Outstanding Contribution.

Heckmondwike's Simon Thirkhill is up for the Community Arts award.

The Yorkshire Choice Awards has grown considerably since its launch, raising money for local charities along the way.

These include Martin House Children's Hospice, The Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund, St Gemma's Hospice, Bethany's Smile, Simon on The Streets and the MND Association.

The 2023 winners will be announced at a black tie event at The Centenary Pavilions at Leeds United on June 9.
