FIRE service crews in West Yorkshire were called to a crash involving a road tanker this morning (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called at 7.42am to the A1 (M) near Junction 42 to reports of a road traffic collision involving a tanker.

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service: "The driver of the vehicle was trapped and released by the fire service."

Fire crews were also on standby for safety purposes.

A West Yorkshire Technical Rescue Unit and Detection Identification and Monitoring (DIM) Team, as well as Garforth and Pontefract fire stations were called to the scene to assist North Yorkshire Fire Service, North Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, the Environment Agency and the Highways Agency.

In an update at 10.18am, the fire service added: "The incident has now handed over to North Yorkshire Police and all of our resources have left the scene."
