ELECTRIC vehicle drivers could soon have a new location to charge their car if plans for Junction 27 retail park get the go-ahead.
Raw Charging wants to install new charging units at the retail park in Birstall, to serve 18 existing car parking spaces for shoppers there.
The nine chargers themselves do not need planning permission, but the sub-station needed to convert the spaces does.
It would be located on the south-eastern boundary of the retail park at Gelderd Road, near Currys, and Pizza Express.
Two existing spaces would be lost in order to accommodate the sub-station.
The application states that it is necessary to develop and electric vehicle infrastructure network if Government plans to phase out the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 are to be achieved.
Kirklees Council planners are expected to make a decision on the application by the middle of March.
