An inquest into the deaths of two men killed in a car crash near Bradford city centre has been further delayed.

Mohammed Azad Khan and Arsalan Khalid Baig, both 24, died in a crash on Dryden Street.

A hearing was held at Bradford Coroners' Court to discuss the case on January 31.

Ian Pears, assistant coroner for West Yorkshire, said the coroners' office is still awaiting a forensic collision report from West Yorkshire Police.

The full inquest has been adjourned until the end of June.

Speaking at the brief hearing, Mr Pears said: “A hearing review is simply a hearing to move the case on.

“We’re in the end game but we’re not quite there yet.”

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

The one-car collision took place at around 11.30pm on Saturday, July 30, when an Audi SQ5 collided with a wall after failing to negotiate a left-hand turn.

In the inquest opening in August 2022, more details about the fatal crash were revealed to the court.

Mr Khan, of Pearson Street, Bradford, was pronounced dead at 00.08am on July 31 by an attending paramedic at the scene of the crash. He was described as a married man who was born in Bradford.

His initial cause of death was due to chest injuries.

Mr Baig, of Killinghall Drive, was pronounced dead at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) at 11.35am on July 31, 2022. He was described as a single man who was born in Bradford. The provisional report of Mr Baig’s cause of death was due to his injuries.

A third male was also taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

In the latest update from police, DS Fiona Allan, of the Major Collision and Enquiry Team, said: “A number of enquiries remain ongoing today into this clearly very serious collision which has sadly resulted in a young man losing his life.

“The Audi had been travelling along Dryden Street away from Shipley Airedale Road when the crash occurred, and we are keen to speak with anyone who saw the car in the moments before the collision or the crash itself.”

Speaking at the time of the incident, Imran Hussain, MP for Bradford East said: “This is of course an immensely tragic incident, and the deaths of these two much-loved young men who had so much promise and had their whole lives ahead of them, in what are absolutely horrific circumstances, has sent shockwaves through a community that has been left in a state of shock and mourning.”
