ISLAMIC Relief UK will partner with Leeds-based charity Give a Gift to distribute food packs to vulnerable families in Bradford tomorrow.
The food packs will be distributed from the Infinity Centre in Leeds and will include oil, pasta, pasta sauce, sugar, potatoes, rice, fresh bread, biscuits, crisps, flour, tea and a £15 Aldi voucher.
The drive is part of a wider initiative by Islamic Relief UK involving 23 partners across the country to deliver food packs this winter.
Give a Gift has seen an increase in families struggling. They are receiving new referrals daily from working families, single-parent families, asylum seekers and schools.
Rifhat Malik MBE, Director at Give a Gift, said: “We thought the pandemic was difficult, but the current cost of living is unprecedented – our referrals have trebled from last year.”
Tufail Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK, added: “We will continue to support the most vulnerable through our programmes, but food banks should not exist in one of the wealthiest countries in the world.”
“The UK government must do more to deal with the immediate impacts of the cost of living crisis, but also undertake a fundamental review of the UK’s social security system.”
