A BRADFORD man has been fined a hefty sum after he was caught travelling without a ticket on his journey to Bradford Interchange.

Lee John, 26, of Rook Lane, in the Tong area of Bradford, was travelling between Halifax and Bradford Interchange on Sunday July 24, 2022.

On the journey he was asked by a conductor to produce a valid train ticket which he was unable to do.

He was issued an Unpaid Fares Notice in good faith so that he may pay the outstanding fare in twenty-one days.

However, John failed to make payment within that time period so a reminder letter was sent to him requesting payment.

As no payment was received, a final reminder letter was then sent to John.

"Again he has failed to communicate or to acknowledge this reasonable request, as a result of which the fare remains unpaid," court documents state.

The case was proved in John's absence at Kirklees Magistrates' Court on January 20.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £3.80, costs of £150, and a surcharge to fund victim services of £88.

In total he must pay £461.80 for failing to pay the rail fare of £3.80.

This amount must be paid by February 17, 2023
