BRADFORD- a city in West Yorkshire-becomes the first to launch WalkSafe. This is an app with the aim to help keep the user safer when walking in their environment at any time of the day.

The app in question is for free and how it works is it informs the user of the safest possible routes home. It enables the user to share their live location with their family and friends and immediately sends alerts to show if the user hasn’t reached their destination. Emma Kay is the founder of this new app and her main initiative is that she wants to ensure the safety of young girls. When younger, Emma’s parents had many rules to keep her safe. Despite this, she still faced unsafe in her environment and she hopes this can change for the new generation of women/girls.

Ms Zaib Iman explained her thoughts on the launch of this new app and, this is what she had to say, “I think the app is an amazing initiative that has been launched and am excited to see whether it actually reduces the risk of being harmed, whilst walking at night”.

The app was recently launched on the 24th of January at the Light cinema in Bradford and has already reached more than 700,000 downloads.

Many people, in Bradford hope with the launch of this new app that Bradford can become more safer and more secure in its environment. Many people are also excited to see these results of a safer Bradford come true and hope that now Bradford will now change for the better.
