COUNCILLORS spoke of their concerns after another crash occurred on a notoriously dangerous junction.

On Monday morning, a man was rushed to hospital in a serious condition following the two-vehicle collision on Halifax Road, Scholes, Cleckheaton, which led to a large emergency response, including the air ambulance.

One onlooker said he saw what looked like a BMW 335i being taken away on a low loader at about 1pm.

He said the car looked to be in “quite a state” and added that it also looked like a substantial tree had been hit.

It is not the first time a serious incident has happened on the junction - which links Walton Lane and Scholes Lane to the road.

A man and woman were involved in a fatal crash back in 2019.

Councillor Kath Pinnock said: "I am very concerned for the people involved in the crash.

"I am also very angry. As ward councillors, we have been asking for action on this junction for six years now. It is a known dangerous accident spot.

"Residents will not be happy that yet another incident has happened in the area. I can't tell you how cross I am."

She added: "It is a very dangerous and busy junction. For road safety reasons, it needs to be remodelled.

"It is a complicated junction. Halifax Road is partly a dual carriageway just before the junction. It is 60mph on one side and 40 on the other."

Councillor Andrew Pinnock echoed those claims by adding: "It is dreadful.

"We will have to await the report to find out exactly what happened.

"We are hoping that something will be done on this junction in the not-too-distant future."

He added: "People who live near the junction are getting fed up with it.

"It is not just accidents that cause the pain and heartbreak which this one undoubtedly will, it is the near misses. They happen on a regular basis.

"I use that junction quite a lot and I do cross it with some trepidation. You have to be very vigilant."
