AS A little girl Faye Hanson dreamed of running her own hair salon.

She didn’t let go of that dream and, after leaving Priesthorpe school, she enrolled on a course in hairdressing at the former Thomas Danby College in Leeds.

While studying she was thrilled to be awarded Student of the Year. “I was very proud as I worked so hard - hairdressing is such a big passion of mine,” she says.

Eight years ago Faye fulfilled that childhood dream and opened a salon in Stone Hall Road, Eccleshill.

Incorporating her middle name, she called her business Faye Louise Hair Salon.

Since opening, the salon - our Telegraph & Argus Trader of the Week - has gone from strength to strength, being listed numerous times as one of the top three salons in Bradford by the business assessment website ThreeBestRated (threebestrated.co.uk).

In 2021 Faye's business was shortlisted in the T&A Best Hair Salon award.

Faye offers a range of hair services from colours and cuts to anti-ageing treatments and spray tanning.

“I always wanted my own hair salon ever since I was small, so it was a dream come true for me to open one,” she says. “I did look at other premises before choosing where I am, and I am so glad I chose this location.

“I have lots of regular, loyal customers who have been with me from the start. I also have lots who have moved away but still travel here to the salon to have their hair done.

“People like to try new hairstyles especially when it's a new season or new year. Sometimes clients want to try a new style but are nervous - we have a chat as to what would suite them and what hair style they would be able to manage at home as well.

“I give them advice on how to style and look after their hair so they can recreate that salon look at home.”

She adds: “I love hairdressing. I really enjoy meeting new people and love making people feel and look amazing.

“Hairdressing isn't just a job, it's my passion too, so I always put my heart into it. And it's always nice having a good catch up with your clients. It's so nice to see them feeling relaxed and smiling, wanting to show off their new hair when they get home.”

Faye’s plans for the future are to employ staff. “My biggest dream for the future would be to have a second salon,” she adds.
