BRADFORD Council has launched an investigation after residents spoke out about a piece of land being used for rubbish and bin storage, calling it an "eyesore" in the centre of the Bradford village of Heaton.
The site, which is believed to be the former Delvers pub car park, on Rossefield Road, Heaton, contains a skip full of tyres, several plastic containers on pallets and other bits of rubbish like plywood.
"The pub has been closed for several years and the car park was sold off," said a local Heaton resident.
"The land is being used for the bins. There's is a skip on the site and it's full of tyres. There are also a bunch of plastic containers.
"All of this garbage is in front of houses in the area.
"It's been there for months. They've had ample time to get rid of all this rubbish.
"I've made a complaint to the Council's Environmental Services department and I'm waiting to hear back.
"It's not a massive problem but it's not nice to see it and it's annoying for local residents.
"It's not like fly-tipping in some places but why are tyres being dumped in a big skip?
"Heaton has a nice little village centre with a lot of nice little old houses and then it's got this eyesore in the middle of it."
Other residents in the area have also spoken out about the site.
"It's not nice for the area," said another local resident. "I don't what Bradford Council is doing about this. The land has been left in a state.
"How can they dump all of this rubbish on the site? There are a lot of weeds and greenery that also make the site look like a mess.
"The site has been barred up with fencing for a while.
"I don't what's going to happen to it. I'm not sure who owns it."
Cllr Mohammed Amran (Heaton, Lab) said: "It's contained. The tyres are in the skip.
"It's nice and tidy and contained on private land."
Cllr Amran said as such the matter would "not be enforceable" by the Council.
However, a Bradford Council spokesperson said: "This matter has been referred to the Environmental Enforcement Team for investigation.
"We will investigate this as soon as possible."
The T&A was unsuccessful in attempts to contact the landowner for comment.
