PROPOSALS that will lead to motorists who park in a Conservative Club car park without permission being fined have been approved a second time around.

Last year, Bradford Council refused plans for a new ANPR camera, equipment and associated signage to be installed at the Shipley Conservative Club on Otley Road.

The building dates back to the 17th Century, and is Grade II listed.

The application, by Yaseen Laher, said the 30-space car park had been “abused” by some motorists, and the camera would lead to non-permit holders being fined for parking there.

The signage would warn motorists parking up without permission that they would face a fine.

The club is located a short distance from Shipley Rail Station and the town centre.

Claim that Council sees cars as enemy is described as 'gibberish'

Conservation officers raised concerns about last year’s application, claiming the signs would add “clutter” to a building that was significant to the town’s heritage.

A new application was submitted – this time the signage would be in less conspicuous places, with one replacing an existing sign on the building and another moved to an existing signage board.

Approving the new plans, officers said: “The scheme has now reduced the amount of visual clutter on the building which no longer considered to be harmful.”
