A JURY has been selected and sworn in this afternoon for the trial of a man accused of murdering a young mother.

Charlie Booth, 27, of Albert Road, in Saltaire, is accused of murdering 26-year-old Lauren Howe on July 24 last year.

West Yorkshire Police was notified by Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) at 9.46am that day that they were treating an injured woman after an incident in Tennis Way, Baildon.

Ms Howe – a mother of two - later died.

Booth denies murder.

The trial was due to get underway this morning at Leeds Crown Court but was delayed by another case.

Judge Andrew Stubbs KC is set to preside over the trial.

A panel of jury members were handed questionnaires to complete which ascertained whether they knew anyone involved in the case - including the defendant - or if there was any reason they could not partake in proceedings.

Twelve jurors were then selected to take part in the trial.

Booth - dressed in a smart light blue shirt with a dark tie - was brought up to the dock and confirmed his name.

The names of the 12 jury members were then read out to Booth, who confirmed he did not recognise any of them.

The jury was sworn in later in the afternoon, at around 3.35pm.

They were sent home by Judge Stubbs, ready to attend court at 10.30am on Thursday, when the prosecution will begin its opening.

The prosecution team for the case is Nicholas Lumley KC and his junior Ben Campbell, while defending Booth is Frida Hussain KC and her junior Jessica Heggie.
