A MAN who runs a newsagents in a Bradford train station has avoided a driving ban.

Ashwin Patel, of Beckfield Road in Bingley, failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when police requested last year.

The 56-year-old was not handed a totting disqualification due to his mitigating circumstances.

These include the affect on household circumstances, his parents' ill health and his wife's failing business.

Court documents say Patel has been running the newsagents at a Bradford train station for some years.

He also drives around 2,000 miles a week, delivering eBay parcels around the country.

If Patel lost his licence, he would not be able to pay any bills.

The documents add the train station shop has been making a loss in recent years due to Covid.

They also say he has a 1000-year lease on the train station newsagents.

Patel's case was heard at Bradford Magistrates' Court on Monday, January 16.

The vehicle was a Volkswagen Transporter and the offence happened on May 23, 2022.

He was fined £153 and had to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £105 in court costs.
