DRIVERS on the M62 near Bradford are being warned of upcoming overnight closures as part of safety improvements between junctions 26 and 28.

National Highways has announced that the motorway will close overnight on the westbound carriageway between 27 at Gildersome and 28 at Tingley on Saturdays, January 28, and February 4.

There will also be lane closures on the eastbound carriageway between the two junctions on the same nights.

An extra place for drivers to stop in an emergency on the eastbound carriageway between Chain Bar and Gildersome is being installed. This scheme is due to be completed by early summer 2023.

Drainage upgrades are also being carried out on the verges between Chain Bar and Tingley, westbound. This section of work is now expected to be complete by March.

The two overnight closures are to enable parts of this work to be carried out safely.

Both closures will be in place between 8pm and 8am the following day, and there will be signed diversion routes.

Temporary speed limits have also been put in place between junctions 26 and 28 - a 50mph limit on the eastbound carriageway. A 60mph limit will be introduced on the westbound carriageway where the drainage improvements are taking place.
