This year will see more detail of multi-million pound renovation plans for Brighouse revealed.

Brighouse Town Deal Board, which late last year secured £19.1 million of Government Town Deal funding, completed years of consultation and months of showcasing proposals.

Now the design team appointed to develop and deliver the Brighouse Deal is using findings – responses from key groups who have given their views and those directly impacted by the changes – to develop extensive plans.

Once developed, these will be shared with people and businesses and then planning applications will be submitted.

Delivery of some projects is scheduled to start later this year, including investigations to check the town’s market foundations.

Projects have to be completed by March 2026.

David Whitehead, co-chair of Brighouse Deal, said anyone can sign up via the Brighouse Deal website, www.brighousedeal.co.uk/signup, to receive information about the detailed plans.

Extensive work is already taking place to survey what is under pavements and roads, essential for ensuring every detail is known for projects to be properly planned and delivered with least disruption.

“We are starting what promises to be another busy year with excitement about what the £19.1 million investment will bring to Brighouse, but also realism that it is not going to happen overnight and that we want to get this one-off opportunity right for the whole town.

“Over the next few months, we look forward to being able to share more detailed plans,” he said.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet member for Towns, Engagement and Public Health, Coun Sarah Courtney (Lab, Calder) said the council looked forward to seeing the transformation progress, working with the board and local community.

“This year, our commitment to creating thriving towns continues with a passion.

“The investment into a bright future for Brighouse is an important part of this,” she said.

The Government signed off on the proposals, following approval from both Brighouse Town Deal Board and Calderdale Council.

Money will be used to improve public areas, encourage active lifestyles, develop Canalside/Thornton Square into event and community space, enhance the town’s retail and leisure offer, build a revitalised open market and develop Brighouse’s hi-tech manufacturing and skills provision.
