A CONVICTED knife-carrier behind bars awaiting a long prison sentence for slashing a man’s neck with a broken bottle today had his case adjourned until March 20.
Leon Fenton, 32, of Birch Lane, West Bowling, Bradford, pleaded guilty in November to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He also admitted having a broken bottle as an offensive weapon on Bradford’s Great Horton Road on July 26 last year and being in possession of a knife.
His not guilty plea to the original charge of attempted murder was accepted by the Crown.
The victim, aged 28, was slashed to the throat with a piece of broken glass shortly before 9pm. Fenton was also carrying a knife that was never recovered.
The court heard on the last occasion that a psychiatrist had already found that Fenton posed a danger to the public. He had previous convictions for carrying a knife.
But a dangerous assessment from the probation service had not been done before today’s hearing.
Judge Jonathan Rose adjourned the case for eight weeks after Fenton had been brought to court from prison.
