A MAN must abstain from drinking alcohol for 120 days after he was charged with drunk and disorderly behaviour and assaulting a police officer in Bradford.

Alan Whelan, 39, of Hawkshead Walk, Bradford, was handed a community order for three charges.

He faced a charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place. This took place at Ivegate, Bradford city centre on July 1, 2022.

Whelan also faced a charge of assault by beating of an emergency worker. This offence was also committed on Ivegate on July 1. He denied the offence, but was found guilty.

He was also convicted for a charge of possession of a class B drug. He was caught with a quantity of cannabis on Ivegate on the same date as the other offences.

The community order handed to Whelan includes an alcohol abstinence requirement, which means he must abstain from consuming any alcohol for a period of 120 days.

Whelan pleaded guilty to the drunk and disorderly in a public place and possession of cannabis charges and was sentenced at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on January 13.
