A MAN has been jailed for sending offensive or menacing messages to another person.

Omar Iqbal Malik, 36, was charged with sending by means of a public electronic communications network a series of messages that were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.

The offence took place in July 2021 in Bradford, and Malik initially pleaded not guilty.

But at a hearing at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on January 18, 2023, he changed his plea and admitted the offence.

Malik, already a serving prisoner at HMP Wealstun in West Yorkshire, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £128.

It follows Malik being jailed for 10 weeks in October 2022 for a theft and assault at a branch of Greggs at a Bradford train station.

He stole three hot sandwiches, to the value of £6, from Greggs, Bradford Interchange, on June 6, 2022.

He also admitted assaulting a woman by beating, which also took place at Greggs on the same day.

Malik was jailed in October 2022, because the offences were deemed so serious due to his record of previous offending.
