THE Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is a jewel in the crown of our district. This photo, from our archive, was taken in 1969 and shows how popular the railway was, a year after it opened as a heritage line.
The T&A ran the photo in a 1969 article about tourism in Haworth: ‘Two groups, the Bronte Society and the KWVR, have a special interest in Haworth. The Bronte Society organises the Parsonage Museum and attempts to keep the character of the Brontes as far as possible.
"And on the Worth Valley Railway, a service of steam trains and a large collection of old locomotives and railway stock draw their own crowd of visitors.
"People in Haworth discuss a plan to build a new road and speculate on what will become of a large piece of spare land at the top of the village. The Civic Trust will produce a report on this later this year, but it is unlikely that there will be any major changes for some time, and Haworth will remain literally jammed with visitors.’’
