A NEW Caribbean takeaway is opening in Bradford city centre as its owner looks to take advantage of a "booming" market.

Kokobay Caribbean Takeaway is set to open next Tuesday (January 24) just opposite the Sunbridgewells complex, on Upper Millergate.

"This opening has been long awaited," said Errol Watson, who also behind the Kokobay Caribbean Diner and Bar in Sunbridgewells.

Mr Watson, who runs the takeaway with his business partner Kingsley Rowe, said: "We've opened the takeaway due to the success of the restaurant."

The restaurant opened in April 2022 and last summer Mr Watson said plans were in place to open the takeaway to keep up with demand.

At the time, he said: "The restaurant has just been a dream. We’re busy every night we’re open. I knew it would be busy but not on this scale. It’s just gone mental and I think the next step is now to open the takeaway."

Mr Watson explained that customers have been enjoying the Caribbean cuisine provided by the restaurant and started asking about takeaway Caribbean food.

Mr Watson said: "We opened the takeaway because our kitchen is so tiny in the restaurant that we were not able to provide takeaway food for our customers.

"But we want to bring in more customers and the takeaway food business is booming.

"People's lifestyles have changed and we want to also be well known for our Caribbean takeaway cuisine to put us on the map.

"People still want to come out at the weekend to the restaurant and sit down with family and friends, so we're looking to capture both markets."

Mr Watson said with the size of the kitchen in the takeaway they can offer food on the menu that is not part of the restaurant's offering.

"We'll be doing a Caribbean jerk chicken wrap, a Caribbean jerk chicken burger, a chicken and pineapple creole, Caribbean steak and Caribbean oxtail."

Mr Watson, who is from Jamaica but has lived in Bradford since he was six, said: "Caribbean food is all I've ever known."

"We'll be partnering with firms like Just Eat where people can order, and there will be space in the takeaway where customers can sit down and wait for their food to arrive."
