DERELICT Bradford sites could benefit from a share of a £60m national funding pot to enable new homes to be created.

Councils can now bid for a share of the funding in the second phase of the Brownfield Lane Release Fund to help bring neglected urban areas back into use and support regeneration projects.

It is part of the Government’s plan to prioritise brownfield land for new housing, while protecting green spaces.

Earlier this month the Telegraph & Argus reported how three schemes in Bradford are benefiting from the fund’s earlier phase.

The first two involve building new family homes on the sites of former high rise buildings – off Manchester Road and in Bingley.

The third involves plans to convert a crumbling city centre building into 77 flats and has received over £1m from the fund.

The £9.7m conversion project for Galem House, a 19th Century textile warehouse off Sunbridge Road, will be boosted by £1.2m from the Government’s Brownfield Housing Fund.

Minister for Housing Rt Hon Lucy Frazer said: “We want to turn neglected areas into thriving new communities, as part of our mission level up the country.

“To do this we must prioritise brownfield land to deliver new homes for people, in the right places.”
