PEOPLE living in many areas of the Bradford district woke up to a sprinkling of snow today (Wednesday) as the cold snap continued.

Areas of the district including Haworth, Keighley and Saltaire were just some of those which had snow overnight.

Weather conditions led to some school closures.

Stanbury Village School did not open until 10am due to snow, it was announced on Bradford Council's emergency school closures alert system.

Meanwhile, Riddlesden St Mary's CofE Primary School also did not open until 10am due to icy conditions.

A risk assessment of the school grounds was carried out and its breakfast club was closed.

The top gate at the school was closed for the whole day, while staff and students were urged to take extra care on their journeys on Wednesday morning.

Keighley St Andrew's CofE Primary School & Nursery also delayed opening until 10am due to icy conditions.

Meanwhile, St Paul's CofE Primary School in Wibsey had to turn off its boiler and heating system due to a burst pipe and was closed for the whole day.

The Telegraph & Argus went out and about in the district capturing images of the snowfall and readers also submitted beautiful pictures of their wintry scenes.

As well as contending with wintry weather, motorists also faced delays following crashes on major routes.

Two lanes were closed and there was queueing traffic due to a crash on the M62 westbound from Rishworth Moor to Milnrow.

There was congestion back to Huddersfield and travel time at one point on Wednesday morning was around 90 minutes.

A serious crash in Elland on the A629, which left a man with life-threatening injuries, also caused significant delays and motorists were urged to find an alternative route.

There was also queueing traffic due to a broken down lorry on the M62 eastbound from Brighouse to Chain Bar. Three lanes were closed but later reopened.

The Met Office forecasts that Bradford is not expected to get any more snow over the coming days.

Temperatures reached 4C on Wednesday, with dry and sunny spells throughout the afternoon. 

Thursday (January 19) will be a similar picture, with temperatures reaching a high of 3C.

Friday will be slightly milder at 5C with a dry, sunny day forecast. This weekend is expected to be dry and snow-free, with temperatures expected to reach a high of 4C on Saturday and 6C on Sunday.
