A BID to challenge the sentence of a danger driver, who struck two cars before crashing into school, has failed.

Syam Khan was jailed for 16 months in December after pleading guilty to dangerous driving at Bradford Crown Court.

Following the sentencing an initial challenge was made under a scheme for lenient sentences.

But the Attorney General’s Office has knocked the bid back as the charge is “not in scheme”.

The request was made that they consider whether the sentence should be referred to the Court of Appeal through the unduly lenient sentence scheme.

The scheme allows victims of crime, their families, prosecutors and the public to ask for a review of sentences for certain crimes that they believe are too low.

As the bid has failed, Khan’s sentence will remain the same.

Khan was driving an Audi RS4 when he reached speeds of 60mph in a 30 zone and crashed into a VW Golf and a VW Polo on Leeds Road.

He then lost control of the Audi and ploughed into a school wall on Upper Nidd Street, Bradford Moor.

At the time he was being pursued by police after being spotted in the unregistered and uninsured vehicle on Jackson Street at 10.15am on November 28.
