AN award named after a Bradford-born broadcaster is looking for entrants.

The Yorkshire Society’s Harry Gration History Prize 2023 is now open for entries.

Named in tribute to the BBC Look North presenter who died last year, The Yorkshire Society Harry Gration History Prize is aimed at both young and older amateur historians, keen to undertake a piece of original research about any aspect of Yorkshire history.

All entrants should produce a short essay, based on their original research, to be in with a chance to win the prize including a certificate, publication of the winning essays on the Yorkshire Society website and a share of the cash prize of £250.

The prize will be awarded at the Yorkshire Heritage Summit in Saltaire on May 18 this year.

There are two categories of entry. The Youth Prize is for young historians up to the age of 18 who must submit an essay of at least 1,000 words and a maximum of 5,000.

The Open Prize, for over 18s who must contribute a minimum of 1,500 and maximum of 10,000 words.

The deadline for entries in electronic format (Word or PDF) is March 1.
