BRADFORD has seemingly been gripped by women's football fever.

Analysts at Footy Accumulators have discovered which cities have had the highest increase in demand for women’s football and it was Bradford that came out comfortably on top.

Using keywordtool.io for their research, the Footy Accumulators analysed the year-on-year search increases for ‘women's football’ in 12 of the largest cities in England by population.

In the last 12 months, searches in Bradford went up by an enormous 143 per cent, comfortably more than second-placed Newcastle, where the figure was 129 per cent.

London was third with 128 per cent and York fourth with 120 per cent, the only four cities on the list to surpass the 100 per cent mark.

Hull and Southampton were joint-bottom with just 57 per cent.

It is hardly surprising that such big increases occurred in the likes of Bradford and Newcastle, as it is fair to say that 2022 was the year of women’s football.

Sarina Wiegman’s team of Lionesses brought football home in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley, as they beat old rivals Germany 2-1 after extra-time in a gripping Euro 2022 final.

And in December, former England player Jill Scott was crowned Queen of the Jungle, on popular reality TV show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, before Beth Mead won Sports Personality of the Year.

It was later announced that four Lionesses, Mead, Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze and Ellen White, had made the New Year’s Honours List.

Williamson now has an OBE, while the other three were all rewarded with an MBE.
