ENQUIRIES are continuing after two people were assaulted in Bradford city centre last night, West Yorkshire Police has said as part of an updated statement this afternoon.

A man and a woman were taken to hospital after the incident on Ivegate, and one of them has now been discharged, police confirmed.

The victims were involved in an altercation with two other men and a woman, they added.

A police cordon was in place on nearby Sunbridge Road after the incident - which police initially said they were made aware of at 7.23pm - and has since been lifted.

In a slightly updated version of their original statement, released this afternoon, West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and a woman were assaulted in Bradford city centre.

"Officers were called to Ivegate at 7.30pm on Friday, January 13 to a report that a man and woman had been assaulted.

"On attending, emergency services located a male and female with injuries.

"Both parties were taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries and one has since been discharged.

"Officers from the Bradford City Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) are conducting enquiries into the incident, in which the victims appear to have been assaulted in an altercation involving two other males and a female."

Acting Sergeant Toni Ramsden, from Bradford City NPT, added: “Incidents of this nature will no doubt be concerning to members of the public, however, enquiries are ongoing to locate the suspects.

“The City Neighbourhood Policing Team is working hard with partners from Bradford Council, Bradford BID, Bradford at Night, Change Grow Live and more to reduce crime and the fear of crime.

“We are also utilising operations such as Project Spotlight which operates through a combination of plain clothes and uniformed patrols to detect and prevent crime as well as Multi Agency days of action to make Bradford city centre safe and feel safe.
