DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses following an assault and attempted robbery in West Yorkshire.

Kirklees CID is continuing to investigate the incident in which a suspect assaulted and attempted to steal property from a woman near Spring Hall Gardens, Huddersfield, on Monday, January 9.

The offence took place at about 8.20pm after a male approached the victim as she walked on a snicket from Greenhead Road leading to Spring Hall Gardens.

Police said the suspect approached her from behind and pushed her to the floor, before trying to steal her rucksack.

He was disturbed by a security light and made off without the bag.

The victim was left shaken and suffered bruising as a result of the attack.

The male was described as white, 6ft in height with a slim build, wearing a black ski mask with a figure of eight shaped eye holes, black gloves, black jacket and black ‘Adidas’ tracksuit bottoms.

Detective Constable Christopher Eglen of Huddersfield District Crime Team, said: “This is a concerning attack, on a lone female, in a quiet location.

"I am appealing for anyone who may recognise the description or may have recently seen someone matching the description in the Greenhead/Springwood area of Huddersfield to contact myself at Huddersfield CID via 101 quoting crime reference number 13230015955.
