A BRADFORD district bar is giving away a free holiday abroad to kickstart the New Year.
Newly-opened Xavier's Bar, on Westgate in Baildon, will award the winning team of their eight-week-long quiz a trip to the Algarve in Portugal.
Owner Rhys Allen-Spencer and his wife Rebecca felt they needed to do something big to open 2023.
"I have not seen a pub quiz prize as big as this before," Rhys said.
"We opened the bar last November and we wanted to try something different.
"I know times are hard and I would like to give something back to the community.
"We did not want somewhere cheap and tacky so we decided to go for the Algarve in Portugal.
"It was reasonably priced and it's a nice place."
The quiz will consist of 60 questions - 40 in general knowledge rounds and 20 in a picture round - every Wednesday (7.30pm) from January 25.
Each team must have four members and it will be £2.50 per person each week.
The team with the most points at the end of the eight weeks will win the holiday.
"It will be a mix of trivia questions", added Rhys.
"The quiz will run for eight weeks, every Wednesday. Four people per team. Every week, each team pays £2.50 per person.
"Whichever team gains the most points over the eight weeks and tops the leaderboard will win the holiday."
The Algarve is on the southern coastline of Portugal. It features sandy beaches, fishing towns and a hot climate.
It is a holiday destination perfect for all ages with waterparks, a buzzing nightlife and historic towns to visit.
The region is said to be safe and hotels are of high quality. English is also widely spoken.
Xavier's, which is located where Freddies and the Suburban Style Bar once stood, has also started to put on carvery's every Sunday.
Two courses are available for £13.95 and three courses for £16.95. Children under nine eat for free.
The married pair had to book the holiday in their names but will pay the fee to change the booking once the winners are announced.
Demand for entering the quiz has been high so Rhys urges players to enquire now to avoid disappointment.
