A TRIO of Bradford boys have been nominated for a BRIT Award.
The nominees for a variety of different categories in the BRIT Awards 2023 were announced yesterday.
One of the names on the list was none other than Bad Boy Chiller Crew (BBCC).
The three-piece from Bradford - comprised of Kane Welsh, Clive (real name, Sam Robinson) and Gareth Kelly (better known as GK) - have been shortlisted for Group of the Year.
They are one of five nominees up for the gong.
BBCC's name is alongside powerhouses like The 1975 and Arctic Monkeys, while English rock duo, Nova Twins, and Wet Leg - an indie rock band from the Isle of Wight - have also been nominated in the category.
The Bradford boys posted on Instagram on finding out about their nomination.
They said: "Giiiit up charva !! Who’d have thought it."
A host of top-class and well-known names in the music industry have bagged a BRIT Award in the Group of the Year category over the years.
This includes: Franz Ferdinand (2005), Kaiser Chiefs (2006), Arctic Monkeys (2007, 2008, 2014), Elbow (2009), Kasabian (2010), Take That (2011), Coldplay (2012, 2016), Mumford & Sons (2013), Royal Blood (2015), The 1975 (2017, 2019), Gorillaz (2018), Foals (2020), Little Mix (2021) and Wolf Alice (2022).
It means if BBCC win the award, they will be the first group from Yorkshire to do so in almost a decade.
And they could write themselves into music folklore - most of the artists on the winners' list fit into the rock band genre but BBCC are bringing something new to the game.
Their roots are unashamedly in bassline, with the trio MCing over the top of the track - led by Kane - to provide a unique twist.
BBCC have remained true to what they and their fans love and know, but in the past year have developed into an act that has more widespread mainstream appeal.
It saw them burst into the UK charts on multiple occasions, with their second album, Disrespectful – released on February 18 - rocking to Number 2 in the Official Album Chart on February 25, beating Adele and just losing out to Ed Sheeran.
The BRIT Awards 2023 take place on February 11 at The O2 Arena in London and will be hosted by British stand-up comedian Mo Gilligan.
One of BBCC's rivals for Group of the Year, Wet Leg, will be performing at the ceremony, with Sam Smith and Kim Petras also confirmed so far.
