A BRADFORD district family business says a burglary was the "last thing" they needed to start the New Year.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, The Yorkshire Treats Company, on Keighley Road in Bingley, had its windows smashed through.

Police say they are investigating the incident and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Owners Ruth and Keith Taylor are confused as to why their small shop, of almost two years, was targeted.

"It is madness because the only things valuable in the shop were stupidly heavy," Ruth told the Telegraph & Argus.

"We don't keep anything of value in there, we are only a takeaway bakery.

"It is a quiet village and we are on the rat run between Bradford and Keighley.

"Someone said they heard a smash at about 2am, so that was probably it.

"They stole the float that was in the till but that was so minimal. It is just so frustrating."

Ruth had left her shop at 4pm, as usual, on Wednesday.

When the business owner arrived at 6am the following morning, she was shocked to see the kitchen door window smashed.

The broken glass damaged, now irrepairable, baking items.

"We now have to spend today clearing the mess up," Ruth added.

"They smashed the kitchen door and the smashed glass has gone all over my baking things, so all that has got to be thrown out. That is where the cost is."

Formerly of Taylormade Treats, the married couple opened The Yorkshire Treats Company in February 2020.

The takeaway sells cakes and sandwiches, as well as doing bespoke orders.

To make matters worse, this was the business' first week back after the Christmas period.
"It is just the last thing you need," Ruth said.

"It has been really tough (since opening) but we are surviving at the moment. We are just tightening our belts.

"We had no income over the Christmas period and then we come back to this.

"Because it is not of high value it is probably not going to be worth getting it on the insurance, so it is going to be all out of our pockets."
