BRADFORD ranks as the third most affordable place for childcare in the UK with parents only needing to work 47 hours to pay for monthly childcare, new research reveals.

Research by Play Like Mum, dolls pram specialists, has looked at factors such as monthly childcare cost, salary and hourly wages to reveal the UK cities with the least and most affordable childcare.

A spokesperson for the company said: "Childcare is a necessity for most parents, but with the rise in living costs, it is becoming necessary for more than just a small fortune for your child to be cared for while you’re at work."

Comparing the average monthly salary to the average cost of full-time childcare, they worked out how many hours a person would typically need to work to cover childcare costs.

Bradford is the third cheapest location with residents needing to work 47 hours to cover childcare costs, amounting to 29.19 per cent of their wages.

Burnley is the cheapest with residents needing to work 28 hours, just 17.07 per cent of their wages.

Preston came second at 43 hours, or 26.21 per cent of their wages.

At the other end of the scale, Luton was the most expensive, with the average parent spending 71.6 per cent of their income on childcare, working an average of 116 hours in just one month to cover it.
