A BRADFORD man has been ordered to pay a hefty sum after his ‘phone died’ and was unable to show his rail ticket.
Jamshed Ali, 22 of Hawk Street, Keighley, travelled between Bradford Forster Square and Keighley Station on June 29, 2022.
During the journey he was asked by the Conductor to produce a valid ticket, this he could not do as he claimed his phone had died.
He was issued with an Unpaid Fares Notice in good faith so that he may pay the outstanding fare within twenty one days.
However, the defendant failed to make payment within the prescribed time period.
At Kirklees Magistrates’ court, a Collection Order was made and he was asked to pay a fine of £220, compensation of £3.80, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.
In total he must pay £461.60 before January 16, 2022.
