IT was the rock highlight of 1980 in Bradford - and hundreds of fans queued overnight to make sure they didn't miss out.

Back in January that year, tickets went on sale for a concert by rock superstars Genesis at St George's Hall. The concert took in place in April 1980, in front of almost 2,000 delighted fans.

In January a long queue of fans surrounded St George’s Hall and the Telegraph & Argus building on Hall Ings, waiting for the box office to open. No online booking back then. Hundreds of fans spent the night sleeping on pavements and in car parks.

Police told the T&A they were well behaved, with no violence reported in the night, although the fire service was called out to extinguish small fires and refuse men were out early clearing up a pile of rubbish.

As the crowd grew at day-break and spilled onto the roads, more than 20 police officers from Bradford Central Division and surrounding areas were on hand to keep control.
