Emergency services are at the scene of a smash on the M606 this morning.

A silver people carrier has collided with the safety barriers on the left hand side of the northbound carriageway.

The incident has happened between the turn-off for the Euroway Trading Estate and the Staygate Roundabout.

One passer-by told the T&A that the vehicle had sustained severe front end damage and had come to rest sideways across the hard shoulder and part of lane one.

"It looked well and truly embedded in the barrier," he added.

The inside lane remains closed while police and the ambulance service deal with the emergency.

Motorists are experiencing hazardous driving conditions this morning as heavy rain batters the district, leaving surface water and creating poor visibility.
