Police have arrested two suspects following efforts to track down stolen bikes.

West Yorkshire Police’s Shipley and Keighley teams intercepted a group of bikers along the canal footpath in Saltaire.

More police officers were called to the scene within minutes.

The operation on Saturday night led to the discovery of three suspected stolen bikes and arrests.

Operation Steerside described the approach as a “great team effort”.

Operation Steerside was launched in 2016 specifically to tackle dangerous and anti-social driving in Bradford and evolved two years later into a multi-agency partnership to work proactively on illegal use of the roads.

As well as enforcement activity in Bradford, the partnership works closely with schools and youth groups and deliver educational initiatives.

Speaking previously, Chief Superintendent Dan Greenwood, Bradford District Commander, said: “We remain committed to proactively tackling anti-social use of the roads and work closely with our partner agencies to ensure that the roads in the Bradford District are safe to use for those living, working and visiting the city.”
