PEOPLE with a sweet tooth are set to be catered for at a new shop in the Bradford district.
Zasse Sweet Creations will officially open a store in Chapel Lane, Bingley, today (Saturday, January 7) following the fledgling firm’s success in its initial six months of trading online.
It will cater to everyone’s favourite sweet treats from yesteryear and will also offer personalised treats and gift boxes, which have already proven popular online.
The shop will offer more than 80 of the traditional pick ‘n’ mix style sweet varieties including cola cubes, dolly mixtures and peanut brittle.
The shop, run by Sharon McCormack, will also include a liquorice corner in tribute to her late father’s favourite.
In a break from pick ’n’ mix tradition, shop staff will bag up customers’ selections of sweets rather than them doing it themselves.
It will also sell personalised letterbox sweet gifts with a host of flavours including gin and tonic and prosecco and strawberries.
There is a touching reason behind the firm’s unusual name of Zasse.
It is the initials of the first names of some of Sharon’s family members; the Z is for her daughter Zoe Weston, 31, of Crossflatts, who will also work at the shop; the A is for Sharon’s grandson Alfie, 10, the two S’s stand for Sharon and her husband Steve and the E is for Sharon’s other grandson Ezra, six.
The first 50 customers to attend the new shop at its official opening from 10am will receive a goodie bag.
Sharon, of East Morton, said: “I’m so excited to be opening. The shop looks top quality.
“It’s not just a pick ‘n’ mix business, we will also be selling gift boxes in the shop. When I started the business, I didn’t envisage how many people would like liquorice. It’s unbelievable.
“It’s slightly different as we are picking the sweets for people, especially after the pandemic.
“We have made the shop very contemporary. It’s a family business.
“Before we opened, someone tapped on the shop window and said ‘please tell me you’re doing dolly mixtures’. When we said we were he said he would buy some for his mum when we opened."
Zasse Sweet Creations will be open Monday to Saturday between 10am and 6pm and Sundays from 11am to 4pm for its opening two weeks. The shop’s opening hours will then be reviewed to gauge which days and times are more convenient for customers going forward.
