A BRADFORD man has been fined a hefty sum after travelling on an invalid rail ticket on his journey from Newcastle.

Peter Curry, 23, of Allerton Road, in the Thornton and Allerton ward of Bradford, travelled between Newcastle and Bradford Interchange on July 9, 2022.

When asked to produce a ticket at Bradford Interchange, he showed an Any Time Day Single from Newcastle to Bradford, which was dated July 8, 2022.

Curry had defaced the date on the ticket.

Following the incident a letter requesting an explanation was sent to the defendant.

As there was no response a further letter requesting an explanation was then sent.

There has been no response to these reasonable requests.

At Kirklees Magistrates’ Court, a Collection Order was made and he was asked to pay a fine of £440, compensation of £62.30, a surcharge to fund victims services of £176 and costs of £150.

In total he must pay £828.30 before January 16, 2023.
