A MAN faces a bill of more than £400 after dodging a train fare between York and Bradford.

Darren Brough, 44, of Holme Hill, Scarborough, faced one charge of travelling on the railway without paying a fare.

He travelled between York and Bradford Forster Square without paying the £20.20 fare.

During the journey, on May 1 last year, he was asked by the conductor to produce a valid ticket and was unable to. He could not then pay for the journey he was making.

He was issued with an Unpaid Fares Notice to pay the fare within 21 days. He did not pay within the time limit, and two subsequent letters were sent to him, without a payment being made.

Brough was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £34 victim surcharge and £20.20 compensation for the offence, which totalled £424.20.

Brough was sentenced in his absence at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on December 16, 2022.
