BRADFORD is the third-most “ageist” city in the country, a new study has claimed.
Online learning platform Preply analysed over three million job listings in the UK to find the extent to which companies were using “age-discriminating language” in their recruitment.
The most common ‘ageist’ term used in job advertisements is “innovative”, Preply claimed, while “fast-paced” and “proven experience” came in second and third, respectively.
Terms like “dynamic”, “active” and “young team” are also ageist, Preply further argued.
The study said that 74.6 per cent of job adverts in Bradford used ‘ageist’ language, ranking the city third, behind York (97.7 per cent) and London (80.2 per cent).
Manchester and Preston completed the top five, while West Yorkshire neighbour Wakefield was ranked tenth.
Tourism is the industry which uses ‘ageist’ language the most, Preply argued, with 55.9 per cent of job adverts containing ‘ageist’ terms and phrases.
