SOMEONE rang the 999 emergency line...because they had lost their mobile phone and wanted to report it.

West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre shared details of the call to highlight the importance of using 999 for emergency calls only.

The team often tweets some of the more unusual phone calls they receive from the general public in West Yorkshire.

In its latest example, the team said: “#Not999. I want to report that I lost my phone yesterday."

Previous calls to the contact centre have included someone calling 999 to say their knickers had been stolen from their washing line and another wanted police to order them a pizza.

One caller wanted police to sort out a replacement car for them after their vehicle was stolen earlier this week.
