THOUSANDS of pounds were raised as more than 350 people came together in the Bradford district for the the inaugural Winter Solstice Strider - a 10k or 5k head torch run.

The event, which took place on the St Ives Estate in Bingley, raised £10,000 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope.

It was hosted by the STRI Group, with parking support provided by Bingley St Ives Golf Club and Bingley Trail Snails who helped with marshalling.

It took place on December 21.

First home in the 10k run was Mathew Warters in a time of 40:43, while in the 5k, the first home was Bernie Bowden in 24:54.

Aside from those present at the event, a further 100 people around the UK took part virtually and each received the bespoke Solstice Strider medal.

David Senior, race Director and co-organiser, said: “The first Winter Solstice Strider was a huge success and a fun and unique way of raising vital funds for a good cause”. 

“We hope to make this an annual event and are seeking a main sponsor to help share the success of the event in 2023.”

Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice’s next run and walk is the Keighley 10k and 5k on Sunday, March 19.
